SUPPORT NONVIOLENCE: The ABC's of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel

The ABC's of the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic & Cultural Boycott of Israel

Palestinian Civil Society Calls for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel Until it Complies with International Law and Universal Principles of Human Rights

What you can do

1. ADVOCATE BOYCOTT until Israel fully complies with the precepts of international law by

A. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall;

B. Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and

C. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.

Boycotting Israeli academic and cultural institutions is an urgently needed form of pressure against Israel that can bring about its compliance with international law and the requirements for a just peace... ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN

NOTES 6-12-2009

World Refugee Day is the 20th of June

BACKGROUND
In 1948, the international community felt a deep sense of responsibility for the mass dispossession, ethnic cleansing and the Zionist transfer policy that began then. United Nations Mediator Count Folke Bernadotte, who was later assassinated by a Zionist terrorist hit squad, stated: "It would be an offence against the principles of elemental justice if these innocent victims of the conflict were denied the right to return to their homes, while Jewish immigrants flow into Palestine" (UN Doc Al 648, 1948). This remains true today as any Jew, regardless of national origin, can gain automatic citizenship while Palestinian Arabs are denied their right to return to their own homeland. "I remember that our right of return to our original villages and homes is eternal, and nothing can change it...""I remember the rusty keys of our houses in Beit Nateef, keys for doors that exist no more, but keys that have their doors in our hearts and our imagination… keys for doors that were real and have exited, for real houses that were build and have exited, in which real people lived in and brought up children. These rusty keys are still with me. I remember that we were brought up with this eternal belief that the right is the right, and nothing can justify ignoring it. I remember that our right of return to our original villages and homes is eternal, and nothing can change it, neither realities on the ground nor political agreement, because it is not only a collective right, but is as well individual right… it is my right Mr. the president, and the right of my children and grand children and all those who come after wherever they are born..." All too often the experience of Palestinian refugees is simply subsumed by the label ‘refugee’ – neglecting the fact that individuals are not defined by their status of refugee alone, but by their rich individual history, experience and humanity. The theme also hopes to encourage reflections on how the experiences of four generations have shaped what ‘We Are’ today.
